Sara, I am following your “safari.” I understand your descriptions since I’ve been there twice. Yes, their music is awesome and their celebrations unbelievable…. I too, used five heavy wool blankets, but I was there at the end of July which was just slightly cooler.
Enjoy all your adventures. Sister Martha
Hi Sara-
I am jealous you are able to stay for so long and learn so much more about their culture and about the people you meet. I had a wonderful time there. I plan to send you a little care package and photos of the children I met to ask you if one in particular is still there and okay. Thanks for sharing your journey….it brings back so many memories and wishes and gets me in the mindset to save money to go back one day! Safari njema!
I have also been to St. Gertrude’s with faculty, alumni and students from the College of St. Scholastica in the summer of 2007(i think it was in july). From your photos, I slept in the same bed you are! But we didn’t have hot water in that dormitory then.

Hello
I randomly found your blog after typing in the name of this convent in google. I know a woman called Sr. Salome who I taught english to last year in a village near Dar-es-salaam. She told me that she is currently at a convent in Njombe and that the name of this convent is Imiliwaha. I was just wondering whether you know her? She has told me that she is looking after around 60 children and so I was looking to support her and the children. She gave a email address so that I could contact her but it doesn’t work.. What is the situation there and what are the children in need of? If you have no idea what I am on about then nevermind, it was worth a try! Good luck with the rest of your trip
Beth.
